Perfection: Jesus Style

Medical RecordsIf you thought mistakes only happened in church bulletins, check out some of the blunders in medical records:

  • The lab test indicated abnormal lover function.
  • The patient was in his usual state of good health until his airplane crashed.
  • At admission, his rapid heart had stopped and he was feeling better.
  • She is numb from her toes down.
  • Patient was alert and unresponsive.
  • The patient refused an autopsy.

We accept the axiom: There is no such thing as perfection.  That is except for Jesus telling us, “to be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect.”  (Matthew 5: 43-48). Perfection

At ordination, the bishop asks the ordinand, “Are you are being made perfect in love?”  Everyone answers with a resounding, “Yes!”  It takes a life time of living and serving to fully understanding of what this means to be made perfect in love.

  • The key word is love, not perfect.  The relational question is not hard; we’re either growing more or less loving toward family, friend, and stranger.
  • This is a process, a lifelong endeavor.
  • It is possible to be made perfect in love.

A magnetic field is created when two or three persons open themselves up to being made perfect in love; it draws people together in God’s world and in the house of God.  There is no fear in love.  But perfect love drives out fear, because fear has to do with punishment. The one who fears is not made perfect in love.  (1 John 4:18)

Fear is a liarNot perfect yet, but opening myself to the perfecting work of God’s Spirit,

Russell
